Module Aims

·         To introduce important fundamentals of electrical power machines and their applications.

·         To build fundamental knowledge of electrical power machines which may become subjects of the further studies in Introduction to Robotics, Automatic Control Engineering, and Industrial Automation and Control courses.

Module Learning Outcomes

After successful completion of the module, learner should be able to:

 

LO-1    :   Demonstrate knowledge of the principles of operations of general electrical equipment and power supply and be able to select machines for given applications based on theoretical considerations.

LO-2    :   Apply related theories and analyze the aspects of construction, principle of operation, applications, methods of speed control, and modes of operation of DC machines.

LO-3    :   Apply related theories and analyze describe the aspects of construction, principle of operation, applications, methods of speed control, and modes of operation of AC machines.

LO-4    :   Apply related theories and analyze the aspects of construction, application and operation of single phase and three phase transformers.

LO-5    :   Analyze the power and control requirements of given applications and select suitable DC or AC machines for given applications.
