The aim is to develop the knowledge on fundamentals of machines, analysis
of mechanisms using principles and simulation to understand operations.
After successful completion of the module, the learner should be able to
LO1: analyse kinematics of 2D linkage mechanisms by applying analytical: instantaneous centre and relative velocity methods and graphical methods
LO2: describe the motion and mechanical power transmission of gears, simple and compound gear trains, basic cams, fly wheel and mechanical governors, and their industrial applications
LO3: apply theories of static and dynamics to analyse the balance 1D and 2D mechanical systems and study gyroscopic motion
LO4: Use of computer packages to design and simulate motion
mechanisms and machines
